Old Fabric, New Art

Decluttering is all the rave these days as people look to live simpler and be kinder to the environment. Unless you’ve been hoarding leftover pizzas in the fridge, the first thing to sort out is usually the closet.

You can split them into the “charity” and “recyclable” pile, but we’ll show you how to discover the third pile --- for art!

For whatever reasons you aren’t keeping the garments anymore, look out for interesting prints on those fabric. These are ready to be salvaged for their second life cycle! A bunch of mismatched patterns and colours can make wonders when it’s paired up for a different purpose.

The word “collage” from it’s french origin “coller” means “to glue”. It uses a broad range of techniques to re-appropriate previously made images or materials to create a new composition.

Don’t freak out if you can’t wield a needle. A pair of scissors, some glue and an enthusiastic heart is all you need to be the next Picasso!

We dig the idea of breathing new found appreciation for pre-loved goods. At the same time, we understand that not everyone knows where to start. So come check out our Collage Workshop next month for a step-by-step hands on experience. You’ll learn how to compose, mix and match, trace and see more possibilities in your old clothes!
